Wildly entertaining, exceptionally talented and delightfully endearing, Skyscraper Stan is a troubadour rock’n’roll ace with the skinniest legs in the live music scene. Usually taking the stage as the fearless leader of Skyscraper Stan and the Commission Flats, Stan also regularly performs his own troubadour style of rock’n’roll, acoustic folk and alt-country solo with charming and energetic flair.
Almost never compared to folk heroes like Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan and Paul Kelly, Skyscraper Stan is nonetheless emerging as a sensational new talent in the Australian folk scene. Hailing from New Zealand’s North Island, Skyscraper Stan is on his merry way to becoming the next great ‘Aussie’ success story. Honing his skills busking broke and hungry on the streets of the American Deep South, Skyscraper Stan has since won over punters in pub band rooms across the live musical mecca of Melbourne.
With tall tales of broken hearts, drunken times in Louisiana and the many trials and tribulations of fools and handsome men, Skyscraper Stan spins stories to make audiences holler, swing-dance and shout beers all-round. Audiences warm to Skyscraper Stan’s lanky yet welcoming presence, rich vocals and exceptionally bad dance moves.
Skyscraper Stan has delighted, entertained and bantered with audiences at the Leaps and Bounds Festival, The Melbourne Folk Club and the Truth North Festival. Stan has also provided 6 foot 5 inches of talented support to Mick Thomas, Marlon Williams and Melody Pool, The Darling Downs and Saint Jude. In October 2013, Skyscraper Stan and the Commission Flats released their delightful EP Tall Stories. Enjoying five weeks on the AMRAP NOW charts, Tall Stories reached Number 3 for two consecutive weeks. Skyscraper Stan and the band will release their debut album later in 2014 after a very successful Pledge Music fundraising campaign.
Tall, talented and totally fun, Skyscraper Stan is the troubadour rock star the world’s been waiting for.
