Three of Australia’s best young a cappella girl groups come together for a special night of vocal music. Although Aluka, The Nymphs and Ginger and Tonic are all joined by a common theme, they present very contrasting takes on the genre. Aluka have made a name for themselves with their experimental brand of vocal music, gracing the stage of the Sydney Opera House, touring through the Australian festival circuit and singing back-ups for pop songstresses Lisa Mitchell and Clare Bowditch. In 2013, they released their debut album ‘Space’, a gorgeous exploration of the timbre of the female voice. The Nymphs work harmony like nobody’s business, combining influences of 40s jazz, 50s swing and early 60s pop to create their unique and edgy sound. Add to this a dash of matching vintage glamour and you get something akin to The Andrew Sisters drinking single malt with Mae West at the Old Bar. The Nymphs boosted their national profile with a television appearance on Spicks and Specks (2010), performing Metallica’s Enter Sandman in the style of The Chordettes Mr Sandman.Ginger and Tonic enrapture audiences with their original brand of cabaret/pop, mixing cheeky comedy with impeccable close-harmony. In their three years together, Ginger and Tonic have performed as a headline act at the Festival of Voices in Hobart, toured to Germany as one of eight groups selected from around the world to compete in the International A Cappella Festival in Leipzig, and in 2012 won first place at Sing Fest – Australia’s leading a cappella competition.
