Charm of Finches is sister duo Mabel (14) and Ivy (12) peddling poetic songwriting and sisterly harmonies. They started busking in the streets of Melbourne in 2011 at the ages 11 and 8 and started making appearances in venues and house concerts, surprising audiences with their delicious, sisterly harmonies and beyond-their-years songs which map a visual and intuitive landscape of the human soul.
After a successful crowd funding campaign through Pozible and countless hours busking down the road from their home in Northcote, they release their debut EP “Home” in August 2014. It was launched at the beautiful Northcote Uniting Church. Having already a performance with Clare Bowditch under their belt, Charm of Finches are currently working on their first video clip with filmmaker and animator Kim Deylen, after receiving a grant from Deakin Uni’s Arts Participatiojn Incubator.
Musical influences include First Aid Kit , The Mae Trio and Kate Rusby.
You can check out their music here: https://charmoffinches.bandcamp.com/. Dear Cedar sing haunting tales as sweet as black treacle, in an Appalachian style. Emma Tonkin, Kirti Mills and Jo Windred share their love of bluegrass, three part harmonies and dark , murderous tales of old.
An eve of melancholy and whimsy, drenched in lush harmonies.
The crepes are excellent, the tablecloths homely, and the stories: sweetly blood curdling to heart melting odes to young love. Where else would you be?
All ages welcome, though Dear Cedar do sing murder ballads people.
Alcohol served to 18+
