2014 has been a massive year for Charles Jenkins. Following from the release and launch of his critically acclaimed 5th album ‘Too Much Water In The Boat’ in February, Charles decided to write and record an inspired album of songs about inner Melbourne, Victoria and it’s surrounds. As his usual collaborators the Zhivagos (Davey Lane, Matty Vehl & Art Starr) were busy with their other projects, he enlisted former Ice Cream Hands team mate Douglas Lee Robertson and Zhivago David Andrew Milne, and Charles Jenkins and The Amateur Historians were born.
By May, the songs were written, June the songs recorded in Douglas Lee’s studio in the hills, and in July a once off performance sold out in a matter of days. A CD was provided to those at the debut performance and adored by all. Lead song and classic Jenkins hit ‘The Melbourne Eye’ was performed on PBS and RRR breakfast radio to a great reaction, and another 50 CDs pressed sold out in a matter of days via charlesjenkins.com.au
Due to overwhelming demand, a return show is being announced as part of Darebin Music Feast. Charles Jenkins and The Amateur Historians, have written new songs, will record yet another CD and will perform all they have for ‘The Past Is Never Where You Left It’ on Friday 17th October in Studio 1 at The Northcote Town Hall.
