The Croxton Bandroom – 607 High St, Thornbury
Having spent most of 2016 touring overseas, and just landing the #9 spot overnight on the Billboard Blues chart with his album ‘Gon’ Boogaloo’, C.W. Stoneking is coming home for a whistle-stop gig at The Croxton Bandroom. The show will cap off a phenomenal year for the blues troubadour, with rave reviews rolling in for both his live performances and his third album, ‘Gon’ Boogaloo’. C.W. Stoneking fell in love with the blues when he was in his teens. From Son House to Robert Johnson, Skip James to Bukka White; from gospel blues to Chicago blues, ragtime to Hokum blues, each sub-genre he discovered left an imprint. He emerged in 2005 with a debut album, ‘King Hokum’, sounding like something out of time that could only exist here and now. ‘Gon’ Boogaloo’, draws influences from old calypso, early rock ’n’ roll, ’60s girl groups, late-’50s R’n’B and gospel, among many others. It’s the record C.W. Stoneking was born to make and is easily the best of his career.
