Scarlet Street
Sunday 6 November @ 4pm
Tago Mago – 744 High St, Thornbury
$10 Full / $7 Conc
Dark rooms with light slicing through venetian blinds, alleys cluttered with garbage, a lone house on a beach at the end of a winding road, abandoned warehouses where dust hangs in the air, rain soaked alley ways with water still running in the gutters, dark detective offices overlooking busy streets…this is the stuff of Film Noir. A place where desperation and helplessness, danger and desire meet in smoky shadows. Characters try to elude some mysterious past that continues to haunt them and hunt them down. Here we meet the world weary detective, the crooked lawyer, the mysterious king pin surrounded by his henchmen, the grifter, the shady casino owner, the good guy who has seemingly made one bad turn, the smoldering femme fatale who the hero is not sure whether to rescue or arrest. SCARLET STREET is an afternoon and evening of music, film, spoken word and theatrical performance inspired by classic Film Noir. The night will feature performances by such local talent as highly regarded actor and musician Ripley Hood, acclaimed local poets Steve Smart, Eddy Burger and Panman, puppeteer Lulu, and musical performers Tracey Hogue, Kristine and Peter Allan, Teira Stuart, QD and Ill-Gotten Booty.
