A Touch of Paradise: The Musical Evolution of Ukulele, with AJ Leonard
This workshop covers the major phases in the evolution of the ukulele from the perspective of where it all began, Hawaii. The repertoire includes music from the late 1800s, 1915, 1926, 1931, 1967, 2008. This is part masterclass, part history lesson and essential learning for true followers of the gospel according to Uke.

Ayami’s Family Ukulele Workshop
Join Ayami and her ukulele for a fun time learning the ukulele. Learn lots of easy songs with puppets, games, and actions. A chance for little children and their parents to learn together in a fun, encouraging environment.

All ages are welcome but this workshop is particularly aimed at those aged 2-8 years old and their parents with their own ukulele.

Line

Bosko and Honey: Hot Strumming (All Levels)
Bosko & Honey pride themselves at being able to present this hugely popular strumming workshop in a clear, comprehensive and entertains fashion. Results are guaranteed! Amaze yourself with your ability to learn some serious “Hot Strumming” techniques, including Bosko’s take on the classic yet elusive “Fan Stroke Triplet”.

Ukestration with Mark Jackson and Jane Jelbart
Think that there must be more to playing ukulele together than the ol’ hum n strum? Ukestration is where contemporary songs are arranged into parts for a ukulele orchestra. The very essence of a ukestra is inclusion, so the parts cater for a wide range of abilities. You will learn really cool riffs and licks that make the ukulele sound so much more!

Line

Peter Moss: Rock and Roll “fun shop”
The concept….. To explore together 4 classic Rock & Roll tunes and form a performance medley that will have everyone on board, no matter what level they are at. I have written it with different parts that will all get together to form a big and vibrant sound.

The Melbourne School of Ukulele
FREE – Registration required

Returning to the 2016 festival the Melbourne school of ukulele shall be presenting a free workshop for beginners. With ukuleles provided, (or bring your own!) join Tristen and Ebonie for a unique and fun learning experience. Concludes with performance!

Line

The Thin White Ukes: Bowie for Ukulele
David Bowie aficionados the Thin White Ukes specialise in the art of deconstruction and rearrangement for ukulele and voices. Betty France, Michael Dwyer and Robert Stephens will lead MUF workshoppers into the mysteries of a classic Bowie tune, breaking down essential elements of rhythm, riff and melody into three interlocking parts to suit uke players of all levels of proficiency.

Yanai Morris: One or Two Chords, a Few Notes and the Truth
Harlan Howard apparently said “Country music ain’t nothin’ but three chords and the truth”. However some of the best pieces of music ever written (spanning classical, folk, blues, funk, pop, rock, reggae, soul and country) only used one or two chords. Learning this kind of music is easy and fun, and understanding these simple chord structures provides a great foundation for learning more complex music. With a bunch of simple songs, some likewise simple ideas for soloing, a looper pedal, a few effects and of course some willing participants, this could turn out to be the jam of the festival.
