Thursday 19 October
8pm – 12am
Tago Mago – 744 High St, Thornbury
Soundtracks For Imaginary Films is a special ongoing night at Tago Mago featuring highly regarded musicians playing live to new and classic films. Since starting last year the event has hosted some amazing performers – including Money For Rope and James Kenyon – creating new atmospheric soundtracks. For this Darebin Music Feast edition some favourite acts have been invited back, including Claire Birchall (Claire Birchall & The Phantom Hitchhikers, The Happy Lonesome), Michael Plater and Ill-Gotten Booty.
Claire Birchall’s continuing evolution as a songwriter and performer, plus her commitment to DIY and sincerity over irony, make her one of the most compelling and long-standing members of the Melbourne music community. From stunningly raw confessions to big-time rock to pop songs lavished with fuzzed out guitar, Casio drums and loops, Claire continues to find new ways to present her material to audiences around town. Following the 2016 release of the single ‘All That Matters (it’s Christmas time)’, Claire and her band, The Phantom Hitchhikers, are currently working on their debut album, due for release in late 2017.
Michael Plater is a singer/songwriter based in Melbourne, Australia. Taking in various indie, rock, country and ‘noir’ influences, his music has been compared to artists such as The Velvet Underground, The Triffids, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen and the Go-Betweens. His solo album, Exit Keys, was released in 2012. A new album Mythologies is out now.
