Dir. Geremy Jasper, USA, 2017, 109 mins
Rating: M (coarse language and sexual references)

In a coming-of-age story straight out of Jersey, an unlikely rapper finds her voice as a one-of-a-kind hip-hop legend in the making.  In between working dead-end jobs and tending bar in a seedy dive, the aspiring MC Patti Cake$ writes rhymes, spits battle raps in gas station parking lots and freestyles at her own determined reflection in the bathroom mirror. She’s a Feminem on her own personal 8 Mile odyssey, with big dreams of escaping working-class squalor via hip-hop superstardom. But first, Patti has to overcome her hometown’s daily humiliations to find her voice as an artist.

Set in gritty strip-mall suburbia, PATTI CAKE$ chronicles an underdog’s quest for fame and glory with humour, raw energy and some unforgettable beats. Starring Australia’s Danielle Macdonald.

Feast Films sessions also feature screenings of music videos from prominent and emerging Australian women film makers and the artists that inspire them. This session will screen Thando’s Work by Kiralee Greenhalgh, and Kaiit’s OG Luv Kush P.2 by Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore.
