A gorgeous night of lush folk, spoken word & gypsy carnivale at Open Studio.
Featuring Beth and the Brave, Silky Digits (Andy Newman), Zee (Lindsey Diacogiannis) and Ungus Ungus Ungus DJ Cabaret show.
Beth and the Brave: perform beautiful alternative folk tunes with themes of social and environmental justice. Led by Beth’s soaring voice, the trio blends rich vocal arrangements with intricate guitar, banjo, double bass, violin and flute. On the night they’ll be launching the first single off their upcoming live album, available on the night in a limited release of 50 in beautiful hand-made cases.
Andy Newman: finds the guitar an instrument of unrefined beauty and has set about honing a musical style that incorporates his guitar as an identity. Combining this with impressive vocals, his music ranges from soothing to emotional to daring.
Zee: US-born, Melbourne-based singer/songwriter and poet dazzles with her spoken word and guitar
Ungus Ungus Ungus DJ Cabaret show: representatives of the psychedelic gypsy prog-rock band so radical they named it thrice present a carnie-hop mash up with live music, dance, beats, and rhymes. Featuring dance artist Niki Shi’s fusion of contemporary, classical and folkloric dance styles with vaudeville, this is carnivalesque party music for the creatively inclined. In the last year Ungus Ungus Ungus have played festivals including Subsonic, Wangaratta Jazz,Fairbridge, Psyfari,Perisher Peak,Yackandandah Folk, Mount Beauty Music, Regrowth,Verge Arts Sydney Uni, and The Village Melbourne.
