ROBIN CASINADER with NATASHA MAY CHARLES (guest appearance by JACK HOWARD) / KAYE-LOUISE PATTERSON and ROSIE WESTBROOK
Robin Casinader is a Canberra-based composer. Music lovers may remember him as the keyboardist in Dave Graney and the Coral Snakes. Or they might recognise him from his own ‘folk noir’ ensemble Hood. Others with silvering or disappearing locks will think of him as the drummer with The Wreckery, while those of more advanced years will associate him with post-punk enigma Plays With Marionettes, or they may perhaps confuse him with someone else.
These days Robin performs his own distinctive (mostly instrumental) music. Accompanied by Natasha May Charles on viola, he draws upon the whole span of his musical adventures, conjuring widescreen images both nostalgic and futuristic. According to guest trumpeter Jack Howard: ‘If you get a chance to see this show, do it. Beautiful, beguiling, involving music. Mellotron…viola…harpsichord… soundtracks to the movies in your mind. Pretty remarkable.’
Kaye-Louise Patterson played piano and sang in Melbourne bands Acuff’s Rose and The Dames. Drawing on a range of styles such as classical, jazz and pop, Kaye and celebrated bassist Rosie Westbrook provide the perfect backdrop for Kaye’s elegant songs. While shades of classic ’70s songwriters are being evoked here, this is a uniquely gorgeous sound
