Do you find yourself fascinated by vintage fashion and furniture? Why not go one step further and step into a world of vintage music! Join Shimona & The Cat’s Pyjamas for a paw-sitively exquisite afternoon of songs from the Swing Era – a time when swing dancing was all the rage, a dance called the Charleston swept the world (yes, even more popular than Gangnam Style), and a virtuoso singer named Ella Fitzgerald, ‘The First Lady of Song’ was one of the most beloved jazz singers of all time.
Shimona & The Cat’s Pyjamas is a lively Melbourne-based jazz trio comprising of vivacious Singaporean singer Shimona, sweet-toned clarinet player Amanda Jones, and effervescent gypsy jazz guitarist Adam Russo. Together, they create infectious toe-tapping mew-sic reminiscent of the vintage golden era of Swing. In WE ❤ ELLA at Open Studio, Shimona & The Cat’s Pyjamas will present to you some of their favourite tunes from Ella’s songbook and will feature the band as a quartet with the tail-ented Tom Flenady on double bass. Tip: Come early to get a good seat and enjoy some yummy crepes before the show starts!
