The Four Strings That Drew Blood: Gareth Skinner + The Man Who Wasn’t There
Wednesday 23 October
711 High St, Thornbury
Gareth Skinner is a Melbourne-based cellist and soundtrack composer. He has recorded and toured extensively with bands such as the Ergot Derivative, bzark, Disaster Plan and the Holy Sea. He is currently playing with psychedelic rock band, The Sand Pebbles, and is also performing his original work solo. ‘Your hand in mine watching the collapse’, Gareth Skinner’s first solo release in 10 years, walks a cello-infused tightrope between the abyss and the sublime.
It’s been a quiet couple of years for The Man Who Wasn’t There (aka Andrew Watson). Having returned from a few European tour jaunts concluding in 2016, he entered a deep slumber – only sporadically surfacing to play gigs and launch the 2018 Melbourne Festival show, Particle/Wave (featuring his music and visuals). As time passed, some said he was only ever a myth. Others claim that they had seen him roaming the streets of Thornbury late at night like a modern-day hipster big foot in search of a decent Negroni. Regardless, this October The Man Who Wasn’t There brings his strings and a few pedals to soundtrack your night at the bar. Pull up a chair, pour a whiskey and come along for the ride.
